Developing a List of Nursing Homes
You will need a list of nursing homes if you are considering placing one of your family members here. Finding a good facility will need some efforts and there are some considerations that you need to think about before selecting any of them. Starting with a list of nursing homes is a good beginning, but sometimes it can be much more complicated than that. Checking your local yellow pages is a good first move because you should be able to find a decent list of local facilities with addresses and phone numbers. For the next step, you may want to consult your local state agencies to find out whether any of those local nursing homes has any disciplinary action against them. If you indeed find some, you should not strike them off your list of nursing homes, but you may want to flag them. Several things to consider When you are considering several nursing homes, you should tour each of them. If you are really serious with a facility, then you may want to visit it several times to make sure that it is the suitable place with experienced staffs and proper services for the residents. If you have flagged a certain facility on your list of nursing homes, you should be able to make decision when you tour the facility. You can decide to strike them off your list of nursing homes or you can keep them if you see that they have shown significant improvement. You also can use state and national rankings of local nursing homes to help you make decision. You should understand that it is possible there is a facility with a good ranking that you do not like. As mentioned before, it is wise to make your own observations and do not believe directly the judgment of a state or national agency. We are talking about your family member that will spend 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the facility so you should ask yourself whether you want to stay in that kind of facility for the rest of your life. It is easy to find a list of nursing homes, but making a decision on which particular nursing home that you will choose from the list of nursing homes is not that simple. After you tour the facilities, consider the overall reputation and input from official agencies, you should be able to narrow down your list of nursing homes. You should make sure that you are comfortable with your final decision before you choose a facility. Perhaps it is not easy to find a clean, cheerful facility with happy and healthy residents, but the right place is available for you out there.
