The Necessity of a Senior Citizen Nursing Home and Its Alternatives

Sometimes a senior citizen nursing home is the only viable option for your parents or grandparents. Most seniors are staying alone at home where nobody takes care of them or help them in case of emergency that may endanger their lives. A senior citizen housing can solve this problem where experienced staffs can watch over your elderly loved ones around the clock.

There are many cases where people neglect the necessity of a senior citizen nursing home. They know that their parents cannot take care of themselves properly anymore, but they ignore the warnings and as a result, experience disastrous accidents. Many terrible accidents have happened due to this negligence to the needs of old people.

Obviously, it is a very traumatic situation to tell your parents that they cannot take care of themselves anymore and thus they cannot live alone at home and need to move to a senior citizen nursing home. Most old people will resent the idea and become utterly upset, which is indeed a heart breaking experience for all of us. In many cases, old people always prefer to stay at home rather than staying at a senior citizen nursing home, unless if they are suffering from Alzheimer's disease and thus they lose their memory gradually. Therefore, many children normally enroll their parents into one of these senior citizen nursing homes in great haste under terrible stress and feelings of guilt.

Other alternatives that you can consider

It is painful for old people to find out that their children have no time to take care of them. This is actually a difficult reality that most of us will experience someday. If you do not want to place your parents to a senior citizen nursing home, there are some alternatives that you can consider.

First you can hire an au pair to take care of them. Most au pairs come from developing countries and they come to developed countries to improve their luck. Many people have migrated from their countries on any reason. A good au pair can become a great help in your household, especially related to day-to-day care of the old people like cooking, serving, bathing, and feeding. Another alternative is to hire a nurse who specializes in geriatric care. You can even have a full time or a part time nurse, depending on your needs.

Both cases can answer your problem, but you need to make sure that you select the proper person who has experience in geriatric care with a good personality who can do their works with compassion. With these alternatives, it is unnecessary for you to send your elderly parents to a senior citizen nursing home.
