Parents are Happy to Live in a Senior Housing Community

There was a man who told a story that his folks just moved to a senior housing community. He said that it is comforting to be sure that they have a good living space to stay for the rest of their lives.

He grew up in Delaware and then he moved west in this twenties and stay there still. He has four brothers and two sisters and they also moved out from their home town in the sixties and seventies. Most of them are far away from home and only one sister stays in Pennsylvania so she can visit the parents regularly.

In the past, his parents stayed in a five-bedroom split-level house in the suburbs, a good example of American middle-class achievement and full of childhood artefacts. The place is actually very nice, but it needs a lot of upkeep, which become more and more difficult for seniors. You may wonder why this story is similar with your own situation because this is common to happen in the United States.

The start of senior housing community

The concept of senior housing community is still evolving right now and there are many possibilities from simple elegance to resort style. To continue the story above, his parents like homey style and they have simple requirements. They prefer to stay in the house watching TV most of the time other than going out for dinner and shopping once in a while and a church on Sunday.

They do not have any plan to move south as other seniors and they kept staying in the same old home as long as they could. Unfortunately, perhaps they stayed there a bit longer than necessary. Recent hospital stays have indicated that maintaining a considerably large house is the job for the young and active. At last, after they reached eighty-eight years of age, his parents decided to consider a smaller housing option.

Although this is rare, but his parents got lucky since they found a good and comfortable senior housing community that is located only less than a mile away from home. Moving out from the old home is a difficult experience for both, especially for his dad. However, in the end they got some new furniture with a comfy new recliner chair and a big flat TV, so they are happy with their new home.

They have moved to a senior housing community that has assisted living options with various regular activities and delicious food on demand. Currently his mom enjoys daily exercises and his dad participates in a kind of political editorializing. This story shows that living in a senior housing community can become a fun experience indeed.
